【詞義辨析】
dare(普通動詞), dare(情態動詞),
dare(普通動詞)有各種時態形式的變化，第三人稱單數現在時要加s，可以和帶to或不帶to的不定式連用。dare也能表示“挑戰”的意思。
He dares to go to Africa alone.
他敢獨自去非洲。
Does he dare to tell her?
他敢告訴她嗎？
He doesn't dare（to）tell her.
他不敢告訴她。
He dared to go there.
他敢去那兒。
He didn't dare（to） take the risk.
他不敢冒這個險。
He dared me to my face.

dare(情態動詞)一般只用于疑問句和否定句中，第三人稱單數現在時不加s，無各種時態形式變化。

venture, chance, dare, hazard, risk,

【詞義辨析】
defend, protect, safeguard, guard, shield, shelter, harbour,
defend: 普通用詞，指用武力或其它措施使人或物不受損害，消除危險。用作比喻時，指堅持某種行動、決定或意見。
protect: 普通用詞，指用某種手段作為防御工具以防危險或傷害。
safeguard: 語氣強，指采取積極措施預防可能發生的一切攻擊或危險。
guard: 普通用詞，指保持警惕以防可能的攻擊或傷害。
shield: 語氣比protect強，但側重防止迫在眉睫的攻擊或傷害。
shelter: 通常指尋找安全地方躲避風雨或使人免遭危害。
harbour: 貶義詞，指隱匿或非法保護、窩藏。
