Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's message at the United Nations was clear... Iran's new president, Hassan Rouhani, cannot be trusted. Netanyahu's combative address reflected Israeli worries that emerging signs of U.S.-Iranian rapprochement might lead to a premature easing of sanctions against Iran. For Israelis in Jerusalem, the speech was a sign the country is willing and capable of attacking Iran on its own, if necessary.
(SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) ISRAELI RESIDENT AMI GAT, SAYING: "I am not a big fan of Bibi, but the speech was excellent. And I say, as someone who grew up here, if we need to do this on our own, we'll do it, we won't have a choice."
Netanyahu's speech comes as the crisis in Syria continues to threaten the stability of the region. In response, Israel has stepped up its training to prepare against possible chemical weapons attacks. Soldiers dressed in chemical suits gave first aid to civilians and evacuated injured on stretchers and ambulance cars.
