U.S., Israel weigh in on Iran's U.N. speech

The response from Washington to Hassan Rouhani's speech at the UN --- calling the Iranian President's latest diplomatic gesture a promising first start.

SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Jay Carney saying: "We are very interested in testing the assertions about that interest on behalf of the Iranians in resolving this conflict diplomatically."

Carney tempered his enthusiasm adding: SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Jay Carney saying: "Actions are what matter and substantive negotiations over Iran's nuclear program will be the test, will provide the test over whether Iran is serious about resolving the international community's concerns and we are engaged in that process. As you know, Secretary Kerry will be with his Iranian counterpart in the P5+1 peace process this week. So, that's the beginning of what we hope will be progress towards resolving this problem."

SOUNDBITE: Spokesperson of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Regev saying: "Our concern is, that the Iranian promises, the Iranian words of good faith, are in fact a smokescreen, a cover for the continuation of their aggressive nuclear programs. And what are the facts? Israel will look at what Iran does, not what it says. And we would urge the international community to do exactly the same."

This is all that's left of Malar village after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan. Residents here represent just a handful of the thousands left homeless in Baluchistan province. Some are trying to salvage what little they can of their belongings. The memory of the quake which killed at least 327 people is unlikely to fade quickly.

Malar is one of hundreds of such villages in the region to be devastated so completely. Initial estimates say more than 300, 000 people have been affected by the quake. Pakistan's Red Crescent Society says tens of thousands of families may have been left homeless without food or clean water.

The Michael Jackson civil trial is coming to a close. Jackson family lawyers have started summing up their case for jurors in the negligence and wrongful death trial brought by the late King of Pop's mother, Katherine. According to Jackson family lawyer Brian Panish, the promoter of Jackson's never-realized "This Is It" concerts, AEG Live, pushed Jackson to get ready for the shows and should have done a better job vetting Conrad Murray before agreeing to let him be the star's doctor. Lawyers for AEG are expected to begin their closing Wednesday (September 25) and jury deliberations should start on Thursday (September 26).
