Acres of hay burn in California

Flames consume nearly ten acres of hay in northern California, sending smoke billowing into the sky. Fire officials say the fire at Hay Kingdom in Winters has caused about six million dollars in damage so far, and it could keep burning for days.

Deadly bus blast in Pakistan attacks government workers

This is what's left of a bus after a bomb exploded on board in Peshawar, Paksitan leaving behind a mess of charred and twisted metal. Officials say the bomb was placed under the back seats of the bus. It was detonated through a remote-controlled device. At least 17 people including two women were killed on the bus that was carrying government officials. The bomb exploded as it traveled near a region known for its Islamist militant strongholds. Blood stained the ground and nearby shops were damaged by the intensity of the blast. Victims were rushed to the hospital. Many were carried in on stretchers as grieving relatives showed up to identify the dead. Hospital workers expect the death toll to rise.

Twenty international Greenpeace activists to be held over arctic oil protest

A Russian court ordered 20 Greenpeace activists to be held in custody for two months over an Arctic oil drilling protest, pending an investigation. They were detained when their vessel in the Barents Sea was seized by the Russian coast guard after two of the activists tried to scale an offshore oil rig belonging to state-controlled Gazprom. Russian authorities have called the protest an attack. They've opened a criminal case on suspicion of piracy although the activists have not yet been charged.

One Chinese climate change campaigner weighed in on the detentions: (SOUNDBITE) (English) GREENPEACE CLIMATE CHANGE CAMPAIGNER, PRENTICE KOO, SAYING: "We are doing the right thing because it is a peaceful petition and action against oil drilling in the Arctic and we are doing it for the sake of the environment. But the Russian government is doing it on no legal base."
