U.S. police launch inquiry after deadly car chase

Police and the FBI sealed off a condominium in Stamford in the U.S. state of Connecticut on Friday. Bomb squad vehicles raced to the scene. It's believed to be the home of the woman at the heart of a deadly police chase through downtown DC one day earlier. The woman -- who has not been identified -- rammed her car at security gates at the White House and police opened fire as she sped off towards Capitol Hill. She was shot dead and two officers were wounded. A one year old child was taken unharmed from the car by police. Later the FBI obtained a search warrent at this Stamford address in connection with the investigation.

Tropical Storm Karen to drench U.S. coast

Tropical Storm Karen, which has been brewing in the Gulf of Mexico, is set to hit U.S. shores from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. It is no longer expected to become a hurricane, but a tropical storm warning is still in effect. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has recalled "currently-furloughed" government workers to deal with the storm, amidst a government shutdown that cost nearly 1 million their jobs. The Agency encouraged gulf coast residents to follow instructions from local officials, and have supplies like water, batteries, and first aid materials at the ready. FEMA says the government shutdown could still impact the agency's response.

Italy in day of mourning after migrant boat sinks, killing hundreds

Only a little ways off the Italian shore, THIS became the watery grave for more than a hundred African migrants. Newly released video shows the submerged wreck of the migrant boat that sank off the Italian coast on Thursday, leaving more than 300 people drowned or feared drowned. More than a hundred bodies have been recovered from the wreck. Authorities believe more bodies will be found on Friday. A hundred and fifty survivors were pulled from the water, many rescued by local fisherman.

It was just terrible."
