一.glare：n. 閃耀光， 刺眼 v. 發眩光， 瞪視
【詞義辨析】
1.blaze, flame, flare, glow, glare, flash, glitter, twinkle, light,
blaze: 指猛烈燃燒所發生強烈的光。
flame: 指一條或多條火舌，多用復數形式，指由許多火舌構成的大火。
flare: 指搖曳的火焰。
glow: 指像冶煉鐵和鋼時發出的紅光。
glare: 指眩目的光。
flash: 指突然發出而隨即消失的閃光。
glitter: 指連續發出閃爍不定的光。
twinkle: 指如星光等的閃爍。
light: 普通用詞，指日、月、星或燈等的光。
2.glance, stare, glare,
glance: 意為“匆匆一瞥”，是不及物動詞，其后必須接介詞at, over等才可以接賓語。
He glanced at his watch.
他匆匆看了一下手表。
She glanced down the list of names.
她由上而下匆匆地看了一下名單。
stare: 意為“凝視”，它也是一個不及物動詞，其后通常接介詞at才能接賓語。
She stared at him in surprise.
她驚訝地瞪著他看。
He was staring out to the sea.
他凝目眺望大海。
glare: 意為“怒視；瞪眼”，也是不及物動詞，其后要接介詞at后才能接賓語。
They stood glaring at each other.
他們互相怒目而視地站著。
【例句用法】
1.The rabbit sat without moving, fascinated by the glare of our headlights.
我們的車的前燈把兔子照得蹲在那里一動也不動。
2.The windows were tinted to reduce the glare.

3.They stood there, glaring at each other.

二.start：v. 開始，出發，震驚 n. 開始，震動，領先優勢，起推動作用的外力
【詞語用法】
start與begin意思差不多，但是start意思稍廣，有啟動的意思。另外在更正式的形式中，更偏向于使用begin；
start表示“動身”時，常與for, from連用，但是不怎么與at連用。
I aw starting for Shanghai tomorrow.
我明天出發去上海。
start表示“動身”時，還常用現在時或現在進行時表示將來時。
I start tomorrow.
start in/out同start一樣，解釋為“開始”，是不及物動詞，常用于口語。
He started (in/out) the task at once.
他馬上開始任務。
start有如下搭配：start doing， start to do， start in，start in doing；
at the start與from the start之間的區別：at the start是起初的意思，from the start是從頭便。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：The quarrel started in competition between two tribes.
糾正：The quarrel originated in competition between two tribes.
翻譯：爭論起源于兩個部落之間的競爭。
分析：originate是起源于的意思，這句話的意思是戰爭起源于兩個部落的競爭，更符合意思。
【例句用法】
1.She started at the sound of my voice.
她聽到了我的聲音，驀地一驚。
2.The society was started in 1980.
該協會是1980年創建的。
3.What a start you gave me!
你嚇了我一大跳！
4.We are just about to start.
我們正要出發。
5.We must make a new start.
我們必須重新開始。
