一.keep：v. 保持，保留，繼續，貯藏，經營，遵守，供給，照管，飼養，耽擱，保持食物不變質，健康狀況如何，保守（秘密），記錄，遵守，保護 n. 生計，保存，城堡主樓，監獄，圍墻 n. 監獄，圍墻
【詞義辨析】
1.keep, retain, reserve, preserve, conserve, withhold,
keep: 最常用詞，指長時間牢固地保持或保存。
retain: 指繼續保持。
reserve: 正式用詞，指為了將來的用途或其他用途而保存、保留。
preserve: 主要指為防止損害、變質等而保存。
conserve: 一般指保存自然資源，保全人的精力、力量等。
withhold: 指扣住不放，暗示有阻礙。
2.raise, keep, support, feed,
raise: 意為“撫養（指人）；飼養（指動物或禽畜）”之意。
He raised the children himself；his wife died years ago.
他的妻子多年以前就去世了，他一手把孩子拉扯大。
He raised those goats from new-born kids.
那些羊從小羊羔時就是他喂養的。
keep: 表示“養活（指人）；飼養（指動物或禽畜）”。
John has his wife and six children to keep(support).
約翰要養活妻子和六個孩子。
They kept some hens and pigs.
他們養了一些雞和豬。
support: 意為“養活”，不用于飼養動物。
She supports her old mother.
她贍養老母親。
He has a large family to support.

feed: 意為“喂養；飼養；以......為食”。

She fed meat to her dog. ＝She fed her dog with／on meat.

Foxes feed on small animals.

【例句用法】
1.Keep straight on until you get to the church.

二.back：n. 后面，背脊，靠背，后背，后衛 vt. 支持，后退 adv. 向后地 adj. 向后的，后面的，偏遠的，過時的，積欠的
【詞義辨析】
back, backward, hind, behind,
back: 作為副詞或形容詞時，強調所修飾物的位置以及動作運動方向。
backward: 可用于人或物，指向后的，落后的或遲鈍的。
hind: 指成對并且分前后的東西的“后面的”。
behind: 指一物同它物相對的位置或場所。
back, uphold, support, sustain, advocate,
back: 通常指對論點、行動、事業等的強有力支持。
uphold: 既可指積極努力對陷入困境者的支持，也可指給某人在行動、道義或信仰上的支持。
support: 含義廣泛，多指在道義上或物質上支持某人，也可指對某項事業的支持。
sustain: 側重指連續不斷的支持。
advocate: 多指通過寫文章或發表演說等來支持或擁護，往往暗示提倡某事或為某事辯護。
【詞語用法】
1.again同back的意思相近，但用法不同：
back與動詞連用時，作為副詞，常指退回到前一個狀態，或是從與之前相反的狀態返回去，而again不可這樣用。
Give me my watch back.(NOT Give me my watch again.)
again與動詞連用時，表示“重復，再一次”。
Can you play it again?
注意sell back和sell again的不同，前者是賣回給同一個人，后者是再次賣，賣給不同的人。
The bike you sold me is too small.
Can I sell it back to you?
If we buy this house and then have to move somewhere else, how easy will it be to sell it again?
當動詞本身指“退回，返回”的意思時，不可再用back，而可以用again加強“退回，返回”的意思。
Stefan can never return to his country (again).
在副詞+動詞+介詞結構中，back和again都表示“回到上一狀態”。
I stood up, and then I sat (back) down (again).
2.back可以用在動詞和主語之間，而again則不可以。
Take back your money.
Count the money again, please.(NOT Count again the money.)
3.back and forth，backwards and forwards以及to and fro意思相似，美國人常用第一種表達方式，而英國人習慣用后兩種表達方式；
4.back of同in back of有“在……后面”的意思，美國人常用，前者比后者使用普遍；
5.back有時指“拖欠著的”，常見的搭配有back pay/salary（欠薪），back rent（欠租），back taxes（欠稅）等；
6.注意as far back as the fifteenth century中第2個as后沒有in。
【例句用法】
1.He proved that he was right and his critics had to back down.
他證明了他是正確的，而那些非難他的人不得不收起他們那一套。
2.Please back the check.
請在這張支票背后簽名。
3.The organization is backed by the UN.
這機構得到聯合國的資助。
4.You'll make your back ache if you carry those heavy buckets.

5.Stand back! You're stepping on my toes.
