【詞義辨析】
habit, practice, custom, convention
這組名詞一般含義為“習(xí)慣”。
habit指個(gè)人的“習(xí)慣”，通常用于表示做事、思考問題或行為舉止的不自覺的方式方法。
That proved to be my undoing, for I soon got back to my old bad habit of dozing off in front of the screen.
這證明是我的失敗，因?yàn)槲也痪镁突氐皆陔娨暺聊磺按蝾膲牧?xí)慣去了。
practice既可表示個(gè)人的也可表示社會的“習(xí)慣”，這種“習(xí)慣”從性質(zhì)上看是一種反復(fù)不斷的或是有選擇性的行為或者方法。

二.reply:v.回答, 答復(fù), 回應(yīng) n.回答, 答復(fù)
【語法用法】
當(dāng)reply指“回答”時(shí)，是及物動詞。
He did not know what to reply.
他不知應(yīng)該回答什么。
當(dāng)reply指“答復(fù)”時(shí)，是不及物動詞，如有賓語應(yīng)加介詞to，賓語應(yīng)該是答復(fù)的具體對象。
He did not know how to reply to my question.
他對我的問題不知應(yīng)如何作答。
reply后不可接人和that從句；
answer與reply有區(qū)別：
answer是及物動詞，可以直接跟賓語，也可以用answer to的結(jié)構(gòu)，前者更常用。而reply作“答復(fù)”解時(shí)，是不及物動詞，必須用to。
answer有具體回答問題的意思，而reply僅僅是回復(fù)。
He replied to her letter, but he did not answer her questions.
他回復(fù)了她的信，但是沒有回答她的問題。
【詞義辨析】
answer, reply, respond, retort, return
這些動詞均有“回答”之意。
answer常用詞，指用書面、口頭或行動對他人的請求、詢問、質(zhì)問等作出回答或反應(yīng)。
reply較正式用詞，較少用于口語。側(cè)重經(jīng)過考慮的較正式答復(fù)。
respond正式用詞，指即刻的，以口頭或行動對外來的號召、請求或刺激等作出回答或響應(yīng)。
retort指對不同意見、批評或控訴作出迅速、有力的回答，即“反駁”。
return正式用詞，從本義“歸來，回去”引申作“回答、答辨”講時(shí)，含反駁或反唇相譏之意。

He did not vouchsafe a reply.
他未予答復(fù)。
