This is the lagoon in Brazil that is supposed to be the site for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic canoeing and rowing events. But with parts of the country grappling with the worst drought in 80 years -- it hardly looks ideal for water sports. Biologist Mario Moscatelli says it's too early to tell what will happen during the Olympics.

North Korean sanctions remain intact

Special representatives from South Korea, Japan and the U.S. agreed to keep North Korean sanctions in place during a meeting in Tokyo Wednesday. The group met to discuss a number of issues, including ways to resume six-party denuclerization talks. U.S. Special Representative for North Korean Policy Sung Kim.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR NORTH KOREA POLICY, SUNG KIM, SAYING: "We agreed that it's important for us to continue to enforce our sanctions in light of North Korea's continued violence of international obligations and commitment. At the same time, we will energetically look for opportunities to return to credible negations toward denuclearization, but in this regard, North Koreans will need to demonstrate its commitment to denuclearization in a concrete manner before we can resume any serious negotiations."

North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the United States began talks in 2003 with the aim of ridding the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons. Talks were suspended after Pyongyang launched a ballistic missile. North Korea also tested nuclear devices in 2006 and 2009.

At least eight killed in Libya hotel attack

A Libyan blogger captures flames rising in Tripoli after a car bomb exploded and two heavily armed gunmen stormed a luxury hotel, killing at least eight people before blowing themselves up. Authorities say the shooting erupted inside the five-star Corinthia Hotel. Security forces evacuated guests, including Tripoli's prime minister and an American delegation, after the gunmen blasted through the building's security and reception. One security officer says he's lucky to be alive.

The identities of those killed by the gunmen are still to be determined, although officials say one of them may have been an American.
