A new era has dawned in Cuba. On the streets of Havana, news of the historic moves to normalize U.S.-Cuban relations is everywhere. From the return of the Cuban Five to the blessing of his Holiness, Pope Francis, many say they're excited by these first steps.
古巴進入一個新的時代 。在哈瓦那街頭,到處流傳著古巴與美國之間關系正常化的歷史性消息 。從“古巴五人”的回歸到教皇弗朗西斯的祝福,許多人都表示,他們對這些初步舉動感到激動 。
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CUBAN, PADRE PEREZ, SAYING: "With these new relations, Cuba is hoping for prosperity. It is great news for the end of the year, the country's economy is going to grow, relations are going to improve, following 56 years of revolution, this is the best that could happen to our people."

The two countries -- just 90 miles apart -- severed diplomatic ties in 1961. Many consider the end of hostilities to be long overdue and hope the deal brings a brighter future.

A search for survivors following Nairobi building collapse

A bare-hands search for survivors in what remains of a four-story building that collapsed in Nairobi on Wednesday. At least six people were injured when the ceilings caved in, and local media reported that more are still feared beneath the rubble. Eventually, a moment of hope as rescuers find one person alive. Into the night, they continue their search, and eventually spot another possible survivor. One tenant says he barely made it out alive.

Britain expects Ebola breakthrough in Sierra Leone in 4-6 weeks

Sierra Leone is the hardest hit West African nation by the deadly Ebola virus. Now Britain plans to intensify efforts in the former British colony where the virus is spreading fastest -- although it has slowed in recent weeks. More than half the 18,000 confirmed cases of Ebola have been detected in Sierra Leone. UK International Development Secretary Justine Greening is hoping to turn the tide.

The British military has nearly 800 soldiers in Sierra Leone and has opened six Ebola treatment centers since early November, although Sierra Leone's government has complained this is too slow.
