Japan stops volcano search due to bad weather

Bad weather on Thursday afternoon forced rescuers on Mount Ontake to retreat once again. Sixteen people are still missing after the volcano erupted on Saturday, killing at least 47 people. Now a typhoon is threatening to bring heavy rainfall and hold up the search for several days. Japanese authorities say when the search resumes, it might be necessary to look beneath the ash.

Hikers say there was no warning of this volcano eruption, that was Japan's deadliest in a century.

Turkey's parliament approves motion to allow troops in Syria and Iraq

With more than 150,000 Syrian Kurds taking refuge in Turkey as they flee Islamic State fighters, Turkey is now taking steps to fight the extremist threat. On Thursday, the Turkish parliament approved a motion enabling the government to authorize military incursions into Iraq and Syria to combat Islamic State militants. Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz says the Turkish culture is at risk, in the form of a Turkish shrine located in Syria.

The tomb of Suleyman Shah is an inseparable part of our territory and it is the utmost duty of the state to protect it. The Turkish Republic will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to fulfill this responsibility."

The motion also paves a way for foreign soldiers with the same objective to use Turkish military bases and be stationed in the country. Ankara has come under pressure to play a bigger role in the the U.S.-led campaign against Islamic State targets in northern Iraq and Syria.

Australia launches migrant abuse probe

Australia's set to launch an inquiry into alleged sex abuse at its refugee detention centre on Nauru. Refugee advocates says women have been forced into sexual activity with guards to get access to showers. There are also allegations of child abuse.Ten aid workers have also been removed from the island after reports detainees were coached to protest through self-harm.Australia's immigration minister's pledging an independent inquiry.
