Hundreds dead in floods in India and Pakistan

India has called out the military to bring much needed drinking water and other emergency supplies to victims of flooding in the northern Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir. The prime ministers of India and Pakistan have offered to help each other in the flood effort in the disputed border region. Both sides have been ravaged by heavy rains that caused rivers to burst their banks. The flooding has killed more than 200 people. Indian helicopters and aircraft have been deployed to evacuate stranded survivors. One man had praise for the orderly effort. 10.

Rescue teams have also been trying to get people out of northern Pakistan. Officials say some 700 villages in Punjab have been inundated and thousands of acres of cropland destroyed. Residents are bracing for more flooding with more heavy rain expected in the next few days.

Less than two months after Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashed over Ukraine, investigators are closer to knowing why. The plane broke apart in mid-air after a number of "high-energy objects" penetrated its fuselage, says the Dutch Safety Board.All 298 people on board were killed in the July 17 crash, most of them from the Netherlands. Ukraine and western countries believe rebels fighting government troops in the east accidentally shot down the plane with an advanced, Russian-made missile. An accusation the main rebel leader denies. The Dutch report doesn't mention a missile but says impact with a large number of fragments would be consistent with a so-called "proximity" warhead. Those are designed to explode in the air and hurl shrapnel at their target. Malaysia's Prime Minister says the report strongly suggests the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. But the Dutch and others say it's still too early to assign blame.

We have to actually analyze many more datas before we can have a conclusive finding to bring the perpetrator to justice."

Meanwhile, the remains of two more victims of Flight MH17 arrived in Malaysia. They were met with full military honors before taken to their final resting place. Some of the victims have yet to be identified and a full report from the Dutch is not expected until mid 2015.

Iraq swears in new government

A new government being sworn in Iraq on Monday night. It will be headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, a Shi'ite. But it will include members of Iraq's Sunni and Kurdish minorities as well. Abadi faces the challenge of unifying the country after it lost ground in northern Iraq over the summer to Islamic State fighters. He vowed to rebuild the army, which nearly collapsed in the fighting.
