Ukrainian officials say Kiev has agreed to a ceasefire with pro-Russian separatists. The agreement reached in Minsk, came on a day that saw Ukrainian forces fighting on two fronts. Soldiers, along with volunteer fighters, say they've reclaimed territory from rebels near Mariupol. The strategic port city sits between Russia and Crimea. While in Donetsk, locals assess the damage after a night of shelling. This youth center was hit. A nearby mosque and other buildings also came under fire. The ceasefire, which went into effect at 1500GMT, is the first step toward ending the conflict in Eastern Ukraine -- and what has become the worst standoff between Moscow and the West since the Cold War.

Heavy rains kill nearly 200 in Himalayan foothills
After two days of relentless rain, entire villages in the Himalayan foothills are surrounded by an inland sea. Flooding in northern Pakistan has killed more than 70 people, most either caught in flash floods or trapped in houses too flimsy to withstand the deluge. With the waters still rising, the army is helping evacuate survivors. And more rain is forecast. Next door, in India's northern states, the situation is no better. The death toll there is rising too. Chief Minister of the region, Omar Abdullah, says the rains have triggered a disaster.

NATO approves rapid reaction force to boost Eastern defenses
A rapid reaction force made up of about 5,000 troops will stand ready to respond to any crisis in Europe. This was one of the measures in the wake of unrest in Ukraine, that NATO countries approved on Friday. It's a move to reassure allies' concerns about Russia's ambitions in the region. Should something happen, soldiers such as these will be able to react with a full sea, air and land response within two days. British Prime Minister David Cameron also discussed plans to hit Russia in the pocket book.
SOUNDBITE: BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, DAVID CAMERON, SAYING: "First, there has been a clear message sent out from this conference to Russia that what President Putin is doing is indefensible and wrong. SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama "Obviously we are hopeful, but based on past experience also skeptical that in fact the separatists will follow through and the Russians will stop violating Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. So it has to be tested."
While Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists have agreed to lay down their weapons, rebel leaders say differences remain. Leader of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, Igor Plotnitsky.
