Severe flooding spreads across UK

Weeks of rain and flooding have put Britain into an all out weather crisis. Some 5,000 homes are flooded in parts of southwest England, including these towns and villages in the Thames Valley near London. Waterways where major commuter highways ought to be. Sandbags (there aren't enough of them) help a little…but some homes are seeping with water rising up out of the ground.

It was the wettest January recorded in 250 years. And the rain is only expected to continue in February. Even the grounds near Windsor Castle aren't safe from the flood waters. The Army's been called in to help. And Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged to do whatever it takes to help those affected.

Forecasters expect parts of Wales and northwest England, on Wednesday, to face gusts of up to 100 miles per hour, that's 160 kilometers an hour. They've issued the first "red warning" of the winter. That means the damage is expected to be widespread and there could be a "risk to life".

Sinkhole swallows eight corvettes in Kentucky

Visitors hoping to see some American muscle cars in Kentucky were in for a surprise after a sinkhole opened up inside the National Corvette Museum. Measuring 40 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet deep, the hole swallowed at least eight cars. Authorities say no one was inside the building when the hole opened up. They're also looking to see what may have caused it to form in the first place. This section of the museum remains closed in the meantime.

Plane crash in Algeria kills at least 103

The tail of this Algerian military transport plane is virtually the only piece that remains. A private television station is reporting at least 103 people died when it crashed in a mountainous area in eastern Algeria. It was carrying members of the armed forces and their relatives. Officials say poor weather conditions and strong winds may have played a roll in the crash. One person reportedly survived the crash, but the official death toll is still uncertain.
