French Admiral says security in Bangui improving

Soldiers search for weapons in the ravaged capital of the Central African Republic. French troops are trying to secure Bangui....and end the violence that has seen about one million people flee their homes. Despite their efforts, residents are still packing up and leaving. But French army chief of staff, Edouard Guillaud, says the security situation has improved.

Despite the peacekeepers, the country is being torn apart by intercommunal violence since mainly Muslim rebels seized power in March. At least 2,000 people are believed to have died since fighters withdrew from the capital last month. And looting,lynching, and outbreaks of violence between Muslims and Christians continue in the north and west of the country.

Families survey the damage after two deadly car bomb blasts in Baghdad. They went off in quick succession late Monday night in this mostly Shi'ite district in the south of the Iraqi capital. At least four people were killed and 25 others wounded.One resident says the blasts came just after sunset prayers and damaged his home.

The violence is becoming all too routine. A day before, at least 14 people were killed in separate car bombs -- also in mostly Shi'ite Muslim areas of Baghdad province. The U.N. says last year was the bloodiest in Iraq since 2008. And already this year, over a thousand people were killed in January alone.

Convicted murderer captured in Indiana

Michael David Elliot is back behind bars just a day after he broke out of a Michigan prison. He'd been plotting his escape,stealing a cafeteria worker's uniform. It isn't clear why the prison electric fence or motion sensors failed to stop him. But, now free -- he stole a car and took the female driver hostage. She later escaped and called police as he was pumping gas. He was captured by Indiana police Monday evening.
