Rouhani defends nuclear deal on state TV
伊朗總統(tǒng)魯哈尼為核協(xié)議辯護
In an interview with State TV in Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says his country is seeing some of the benefits from the Geneva nuclear talks last November. Under the terms of the interim deal reached between Iran andsix world powers, Tehran agreed to limit parts of its nuclear program, in exchange for the easing of some international sanctions.
在德黑蘭國家電視臺接受采訪時,伊朗總統(tǒng)魯哈尼表示,他的國家已經(jīng)從去年11月份的核會談中看到一些益處 。按照伊朗和世界六大國之間達成的臨時協(xié)議條款,德黑蘭同意限制部分核項目,換取國際社會放松一些制裁措施 。
(SOUNDBITE) (Farsi) IRANIAN PRESIDENT HASSAN ROUHANI, SAYING: "Regarding the issue of the joint action plan or what is known as the Geneva agreement, our people witnessed that in the first step we were able to reach an agreement with the great powers while keeping the dignity and preserving the rights of our nation. Today we are seeing that many of these oppressive chains that were unrightfully bound on the economic movements of our society, are being torn apart."

He noted that not all Americans were happy with the agreement.

(SOUNDBITE) (Farsi) IRANIAN PRESIDENT HASSAN ROUHANI, ON THE PRELIMINARY NUCLEAR DEAL IRAN STRUCK IN NOVEMBER, SAYING: "This move has caused much anger among our enemies. You can see that the radicals in America are saying something new every day. The Zionist regime is very angry and our dear people witness how upset they are with this agreement. I want to state that this is the first success of the great nation of Iran in cooperating with the world." Rouhani has promised to pursue a consistent foreign policy of "prudence and moderation."

Texas to execute woman accused of killing man for insurance money

Suzanne Basso, who was convicted of killing a mentally disabled man to collect insurance money in 1998 is slated for execution Wednesday evening. If it goes ahead as planned, she will be the 14th female put to death in the country since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. She was convicted of leading a plot to kidnap, torture Louis "Buddy" Musso, to death -- later found in this ditch outside Houston. The 59 year-old, is set to be put to death by lethal injection at 6 pm local time in Texas.

Flights are going nowhere in Albany, New York. More than 2,000 flights were canceled early on Wednesday morning, with more than 250 delayed. A heavy winter storm bore down on the U.S. East Coast Wednesday, prompting states of emergency in New Jersey and New York. In Massachusetts roads are blanketed in snow. Authorities are doing what they can to clear the way. Some are dreaming of summer.

In New York City even travel by foot has its risks. Scenes from Pennsylvania show downed trees and empty streets, with reports of power outages hitting 720,000 customers. At a New Jersey train station, passengers hope for the best. As of Jan. 26, the state had already spent $60 million on snow removal, putting it on pace to break the record of $62.5 million spent last year.
