Fort Hood shooter sentenced to death

A death sentence for Food Hood Shooter Major Nidal Hasan. On Wednesday a military sentenced Hasan to death by lethal injection for killing 13 people and wounding 31 others in a November 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas. The jury of 13 officers deliberated a little more than two hours before deciding the punishment for the Army psychiatrist. Hasan admitted to being the gunman and said he had switched sides in what he considered to be a U.S. war on Islam. The last time the U.S. military executed a prisoner was in 1961.

Argentina energy plan sparks clashes

The prospect of a deal to develop a massive shale oil and gas field in Argentina is generating a lot of heat in the province where it lies. So much so that this protest against the possible deal to exploit the vast resources turned violent. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets under a hail of rocks and petrol bombs from the protesters. About 5,000 demonstrators turned out to show their opposition to a tie-up between Argentine energy firm YPF and U.S.-based Chevron. The government recently eased petroleum sector rules enabling the deal worth nearly one and quarter billion dollars to go ahead.

This is the answer they give to the people who say no to pollution, sons of bitches." Those who oppose the development of the Vaca Muerta field face a major battle. Argentina is counting on the field to regain the energy self-sufficiency it lost a decade ago, costing millions of dollars to import supplies as a result.

Obama says has not made a decision on Syria military strike

U.S. President Barack Obama told the PBS NewsHour that he still has not as not made a decision on making a military strike against Syria.

SOUNDBITE: U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "We can take limited, tailored approaches, not getting drawn into a long conflict, not a repetition of, you know, Iraq, which I know a lot of people are worried about - but if we are saying in a clear and decisive but very limited way, we send a shot across the bow saying, stop doing this, that can have a positive impact on our national security over the long term." The Syrian government is suspected of using chemical weapons on hundreds of its own citizens last week.

Obama said he did not believe the Syrian opposition has chemical weapons that could have been used on a scale to kill hundreds of people.
