Storm Kong-Rey to bring torrential rains and strong winds

Kong-Rey is also expected to bring powerful gales of around 100 kilometers an hour and heavy downpours in eastern and southern China.

The 15th tropical storm of the year is moving northeast at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour. Starting Thursday evening, torrential rains are expected in southern Guangdong province, as well as eastern Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces.

Chinese maritime authorities have issued a yellow warning for waves brought by the tropical storm, warning ships in affected areas to take necessary precautions.
