一.damage：n. 損害，損失，毀壞 vt. 損害，毀壞
【詞義辨析】
break, destroy, ruin, wreck, damage, spoil,
break: 普通用詞，指某物因被打破或撕破而受到破壞，可指有形或無形的破壞。
destroy: 多指徹底地、毀滅性地破壞，含導致無用，不能或很難再修復的意味。
ruin: 多指因外部原因而受到嚴重破壞或毀滅，側重破壞的徹底性，也可用于引申意義。
wreck: 側重指船只、車輛、房屋等受到嚴重破壞或完全毀壞，也可指計劃、健康受到損害。
damage: 多指對無生命物體的損害，造成降低價值、破壞功能等后果。
spoil: 強調不僅會削弱力量、精力或價值，而且會導致不可避免的毀滅。
【例句用法】
1.The store owner received satisfaction for the damage.
店主收到了對損壞的賠償。
2.The damage to the painting is the work of vandals.
毀壞這幅畫的事是恣意破壞公物的人干的。
3.We will reimburse the customer for any loss or damage.

【詞義辨析】
about, around, round,
about: 既可表靜態，也可表動態。
around: 主要用于美國，靜態或動態均可。
round: 主要用于英國，多半指動態。
almost, nearly, about, approximately, around, roughly,
almost: 指在程度上相差很小，差不多。
nearly: 與almost含義基本相同，側重指數量、時間或空間上的接近。
about: 常可分almost和nearly換用，但about用于表示時間、數量的“大約”時，實際數量可能多也可能少。
approximately: 多用于書面語，指精確度接近某個標準以致誤差可忽略不計。
around: 多用于非正式場合，常見于美國英語。
roughly: 指按粗略估計，常代替about。
【詞語用法】
1.around和round相似，均作副詞和介詞用。美國人習慣用around，如下列各例句：
He turned around.Like the moon, the artificial satellites move around the earth.
I went around to the post-office.
Around 800 men came.
英國人習慣用round，如上面的前三個例句，他們習慣把around改成round，而最后一句，則改成about。
2.around有一些固定的搭配，如around and about，around and above，all around等。而有時不可用around，如winter comes around，all the year around，win one around等；
3.round與around的比較：
round常指在圈內或者曲線上的移動或定位。
She walked round the car and looked at the wheels.
英國人還常用round作“去到一個地方的每個部分”或“分東西給組里的每個人”。
We walked round the old part of the town.
Could you pass the cups round, please?
而around則指不明確的，模糊的移動或定位。
The children were running around/about everywhere.
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：I prefer being around people.
糾正：I prefer having people around me.
翻譯：我更偏向有人圍繞在我的身邊。
分析：這里顛倒了不可倒置的習語。
【例句用法】
1.I'll send someone to show you around.
我派人帶你到周圍轉轉。
2.It'll be finished around Christmas.
這事將在圣誕節前後完成。
3.He turned around as he heard a noise behind him.
他聽到身后有響聲，便轉過身來。
4.I will visit you around Christmas.

5.He looked around but could see nobody.
