【詞語用法】
across后常加from，
He lives across (the street) from my house.
他住在我的房子的對面。
與across不同，through是指在三維空間里移動。
We walked across the ice.
I walked through the wood.
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：When the green light is on, you're allowed to across the road.
糾正：When the green light is on, you're allowed to cross the road.
翻譯：當燈變綠的時候，你被允許過馬路。
分析：across屬于副詞和介詞，不可作為動詞去表示穿過的意思。

across, along, over, through,
across: 指“從……的一邊到另一邊”，強調橫過，多與動態動詞連用。
along: 指沿著一條直線在水平方向上運動。一般表動態，有時也與靜態動詞連用。
over: 常和動態動詞連用，指“從……上面越過”或“橫越”；表靜態時，指“在彼處”。
through: 側重從一端穿到另一端。

across: 主要表示從某物的表面“橫過”，涉及“面”的概念。

二.follow：v. 跟隨，追趕，緊接著，注意，遵循，沿著，明白 n. 跟隨
【詞語用法】
follow可表示“在……之后”，常作及物動詞，后面不需要再加介詞after。
The duckling followed its mother everywhere.
小鴨子們緊跟著母鴨到處走。
as follows屬于固定的習慣用語，在以詞組形式出現的時候，follow不可以單數形式出現，不管句子主語是單數或復數，只可以as follows的形式出現。

follow后的介詞如upon有時可省略。
A strange thing followed upon the incident.
這個事件后跟著出了很奇怪的事情。
(as) in the following同as follows一樣都屬于固定搭配，兩者不可混用，如不可隨意更改成as following或in the follows；
the following可同時作單數或者復數，隨句子的意思而改變。
The following is my full name.
The following are our full names.
following有時以介詞形式出現，常見于報紙上。
Following the ceremony a reception was held.
在典禮之后，會舉行一場招待會。
要注意，follow后不能接賓語和不定式的結構。
I followed him to go into the house.
這種說法是不可以的。應改成I followed him into the house。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：The pages are all mixed up; this should follow after that.
糾正：The pages are all mixed up; this should follow that.
翻譯：這些頁全部都錯亂了，這一頁應該是跟在那一頁后面的。
分析：follow可表示“在……之后”，常作及物動詞，后面不需要再加介詞after。
【詞義辨析】
pursue, follow, chase, hunt, trace, track, trail,
pursue: 指堅持不懈、毫不動搖地緊跟、追趕某人、某物或某個事業。
follow: 普遍用詞，含義最廣，多指跟隨起引導作用的人或物，跟隨的動機可以是善意的，也可能是惡意的。
chase: 指快速追趕或決心追蹤，褒義貶義均可用。
hunt: 原義為“追獵、獵取”，現用于指追捕或搜尋逃犯等。
trace: 指根據線索或足跡進行跟蹤。用于抽象意義時指找到某事物的根源。
track: 指沿著人或動物留下的印跡或行跡追蹤。
trail: 一般指跟蹤追擊。
