一.suggest:vt.建議, 暗示, 使想起, 表明, 要求
【語法用法】
suggest后可接動名詞，不能接不定式。
I suggest asking her advice.
我建議問一下她的想法。
suggest后可接that從句，有多種不同的用法：
在英國，suggest所引導(dǎo)的that從句中的動詞可以是一般現(xiàn)在時，也可以是過去時。
Her uncle suggests that she gets a job in a bank.
He suggested that she got a job in a bank.
在英國，從句中加that加不定式也屬常見。
給出直接建議的時候，一般省略should，如I suggest (that) you get...。
suggest后有時可直接加主語。
I suggest hamburgers.
我建議漢堡包。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: Suggest at sexiness but don't flaunt it.
訂正: Suggest at sexiness but don't flaunt it.
翻譯: 建議性感，但是不能太過招搖。
分析: suggest是及物動詞，后面可直接跟賓語，不需要不介詞at。
【詞義辨析】
1.mean, imply, indicate, represent, denote, signify, suggest
這些動詞均含有“表示……的意思”之意。
mean最普通用詞，指文字或符號等所表示的各種明確的或含蓄的意義。
imply側(cè)重用文字或符號表示的聯(lián)想，暗示。
indicate指明顯的表示。
represent指體現(xiàn)或代表。
denote指某一詞字面或狹義的意思，或指某些符號或跡象的特指含義。
signify指用文字、說話或表情等表示單純的意思。
suggest通常指暗含地、隱晦地表達意思。
2.recommend, advocate, propose, suggest, prescribe
這些動詞均含“勸告、主張、建議”之意。
recommend指向?qū)Ψ教岢龉_的建議或規(guī)勸。
advocate指公開表明對某事或某行為的完全贊同，語氣強于recommend。
propose多指較正式地提出建議。
suggest語氣較委婉，指提出不成熟的建議或參見意見。
prescribe多指醫(yī)生開處方。
【例句用法】
I suggested to him that we should tackle the problem another way.
我向他建議我們用另一種方式處理這個問題。
I suggested going for a walk.
我建議去散步。
二.almost:adv.幾乎, 差不多 adj.相近的
【語法用法】
almost no，almost nothing和almost never都指“幾乎沒有”，屬美國英語，而英國人更習(xí)慣說scarcely/hardly any，scarcely/hardly anything和scarcely/hardly ever。不過兩國人都不說almost not，因almost不可被not修飾，可以說nearly not；
almost與nearly意思相近，不過美國人習(xí)慣用almost。
有時，almost只是比nearly更近了那么“一點點”。
It's nearly ten o'clock. (= perhaps 9.45)
It's almost ten o'clock. (= perhaps 9.57)
當描述即將達到目標或者接近于某數(shù)據(jù)等時，人們更習(xí)慣于用almost去表達“接近，但不完全一樣”的意思，使得陳述的內(nèi)容沒有那么精確，明確。
Jake is almost like a father to me.
通常nearly不用在否定詞前，如never，nobody，nothing，any等，習(xí)慣與almost連用。
【詞義辨析】
almost, nearly, about, approximately, around, roughly
這些副詞均有“大約，差不多”之意。
almost指在程度上相差很小，差不多。
nearly與almost含義基本相同，側(cè)重指數(shù)量、時間或空間上的接近。
about常可分almost和nearly換用，但about用于表示時間、數(shù)量的“大約”時，實際數(shù)量可能多也可能少。
approximately多用于書面語，指精確度接近某個標準以致誤差可忽略不計。
around多用于非正式場合，常見于美國英語。
roughly指按粗略估計，常代替about。

She fell and almost/nearly broke her neck.
她跌倒了，險些跌斷了脖子。
It's a mistake they almost always make.
那是他們幾乎總要犯的錯誤。
