Latest Charlie Hebdo edition sells out in minutes
France has seen many of these crowded kiosk lines today. Sold out within minutes... the first edition of Charlie Hebdo published since last week's deadly attack. A total of five million copies of the so-called "survivors' edition" are to be printed... a much larger circulation than the normal 60,000. But for eager customers, the number available is still not enough.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) CUSTOMER, ANGELIQUE HIMEUR, SAYING: "I only went to one (news stand) because they're all out of stock since yesterday for the customers. They keep some for their family and relatives, so, I know it will be re-published tomorrow and the day after, so we all hope to get one."
Many of those lining up say buying a copy is a show of solidarity.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) CUSTOMER, MARCO, SAYING: "It's a must to have Charlie, we are all Charlie."
"We are all Charlie", he says...although France is aware that solidarity may not be enough to prevent another attack.
U.S., Iran start preparatory talks on Iranian nuclear work
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrives in Geneva in an effort to renew a quest for an elusive nuclear deal with Iran after talks failed for the second time last November. Kerry met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Geneva to discuss possible progress on Iran's disputed nuclear program. Asked if he hoped they could reach agreement by July 1, Zarif said: "That's why we are here. We'll see." The sought-after agreement, whose new deadline is June 30, would gradually end sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for verifiable curbs on its uranium enrichment. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only, denying Western suspicions it has military goals.

In Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, refugees are digging out. Winter is in full blast. Sub-zero temperatures and icy conditions threaten daily. United Nations Children's Fund spokesman Christophe Boulierac says it's become deadly for children.

The country is home to over 1.1 million Syrian refugees with more than 400,000 here in Bekaa. Many live in informal settlements where little more than a tent separates them from the cold. Inside newborns receive care. Refugees do what they can to get by. Winter aid efforts began in October and intensified in December. Still the UN remains concerned.
