Hollande says unity "best weapon" after attack suspects killed

The Arc de Triomphe shines in support for satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo... after two suspects, wanted for Wednesday's grisly attack, were killed by anti-terrorist police. The dramatic police assault in a small northern town was echoed at a Jewish supermarket northeast of Paris, where a siege ended with the gunman dead... along with four hostages.

French President Francois Hollande confirmed hostages were killed, and warned that France has not seen an end to such brutal security threats. He says national unity is France's "best weapon" against radical extremists.

House-to-house search in villages northeast of Paris in hunt for attackers

Night falls on the French village of Longpont, northeast of Paris. It's around here that anti-terrorism police are focussing their search for two suspected killers on the loose. They're looking for two brothers of Algerian descent, suspected of carrying out Wednesday's deadly attack in Paris at Charlie Hebdo, the liberal weekly newspaper known for lampooning radical Islam. Police think the gunmen may have abandoned their car here and a resident says police have told villagers to stay inside. Police are also searching nearby Corcy, where the fugitives had been spotted. Residents look bewildered as heavily armed police in ski masks comb the village, in a meticulous house-to-house search that includes garages and barns. The villages are set in thick forest and boggy marshland and it isn't clear if the brothers are holed up in the area or have moved on.

Protest against transportation fare hike in Sao Paulo turns violent

A show of force in Brazil. Police in Sao Paulo clash with protesters who are condemning the city's hike in public transportation fares. Authorities fire stun grenades to disperse the crowds and arrest dozens of protesters. Prior to the clashes, a peaceful display of anger. An estimated 2,000 protesters march through the city, which raised the fares by nearly 20 U.S. cents.

The march called to mind the mass demonstrations that rocked Brazil back in 2013. Those protests also started over fare hike grievances.
