This observation tower in the middle of the Amazon jungle in Brazil will monitor the effects of climate change. It will soar 325 metres above the ground when it's completed at the end of this year. And, it'll be the tallest of its kind.

(SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) RESEARCHER FOR THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH INTO THE AMAZON, ANTONIO MANZI, SAYING: "At this stage in the construction, to have two thirds of the tower already in place is a source of great joy for us."

Researchers say its superior height will allow data collected from the air to be more precise. Brazil's annual greenhouse gas emission last year increased for the first time since 2004, a report on Wednesday showed. Environmentalists are urging the government to stop the destruction of the rainforest and reduce the dependency on fossil-fuel.

Supreme Court gives go ahead for gay marriage in South Carolina

After years of protest for marriage equality in South Carolina -- a victory for Gay South Carolinians who now have the right to legally wed. The Supreme Court has denied a request to block gay marriage in one of America's most conservative states. Gay marriage became legal at noon eastern time Thursday, and it has become the 35th U.S. state to allow gay marriage.

Florida State University students had no idea there was an active shooter in the library, until they saw their classmates bloodied.

Kinda walked a little closer, and there were two people about to leave, saw what happened, ran back and yelled, 'Call 911!'"

The gunman shot and injured three students. Before being shot and killed by police, he fired on officers.
