Japan officials promote whale meat

This isn't your ordinary stir-fry -- it's made of whale meat. The dish is the centrepiece of a publicity lunch by the Japanese government to promote its "scientific whaling programme". Japan says hunting and eating whales is part of its culture, and officials are putting money where their mouths are.

The country will resume the controversial programme next year despite an April ruling by the International Court of Justice saying it should stop. The new plan calls for hunting over 300 minke whales, a third of the quota for previous years.

A state of emergency in Western New York, where residents make a last ditch effort to dig out of a snow storm that's killed at least seven people so far. It's stranding residents like Bethany Hojnacki, who was unable to make it to the hospital, and gave birth in a firehouse.

Honduras' Miss World contestant found murdered

A beauty queen murdered... just days before the Honduran was due to compete in the Miss World pageant. Police say the bodies of 19-year-old Maria Jose Alvarado and her sister Sofia were found buried near a river in the mountainous region of Santa Barbara. Police say they've also found the murder weapon. They've arrested two men in connection to the crime -- and according to the Interior Minister, one of them is the boyfriend of the beauty queen's sister. Reports say the girls were last seen leaving a party, in a car without a license plate -- a disappearance that has sent shockwaves through the city. Honduras is considered the murder capital of the world... and much to the distress of this family, their beautiful daughter has been caught in the cycle of violence.
