Former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee dies at age 93
華盛頓郵報前主編布拉德利逝世
Former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, who oversaw the paper's coverage of the Watergate scandal that toppled President Richard Nixon, died Tuesday at age 93, the newspaper said. As executive editor from 1968 until 1991, Bradlee became one of the most important figures in Washington, as well as journalism history. The paper said Bradlee died at his home in Washington of natural causes.

Oscar Pistorius sentenced to five years in prison

Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison for the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius stood when the sentence was read.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) OSCAR PISTORIUS STANDING, JUDGE THOKOZILE MASIPA (NOT SEEN) READING SENTENCE, SAYING: "The following is what I consider to be a sentence (JUDGE THOKOZILE MASIPA IN-VISION) that is fair and just both to society and to the accused. Count one: (PISTORIUS IN VISION) culpable homicide. The sentence imposed is five years of imprisonment imposed in terms of section 2761-I of the Criminal Procedure Act, Number 51 of 1977.

Pistorius was later led into an awaiting police vehicle and driven off. Legal analysts say he could be considered for parole after serving about 10 months of the sentence. Pistorius was also handed a suspended three year sentence on a firearm charge.

For dozens of families in the Iraqi town of Qara Tappa, just over an hour's drive north of the capitol Baghdad, it's finally time to say goodbye. Islamic State militants reportedly launched a wide scale attack on the town Monday and are advancing closer in. Residents are alarmed by what lies ahead.

The assault on Qara Tappa suggests the Islamic State is widening its battlefront against Kurdish peshmerga fighters in Iraq. Security officials say reinforcements have been sent in to repel the insurgents.
