Brazilian prisoners riot for better conditions

Two guards have been taken hostage by prisoners in this Brazilian cellblock. Their ransom: better living conditions for the prisoners in the overcrowded jail. Rioting broke out on Sunday as the inmates were being served breakfast. Two prisoners were decapitated, and another two were thrown off the roof. Jairo Ferreira Filho, a lawyer representing the prisoners, says conditions inside the facility are desperate.

Dozens of prisoners, facing threats from riot leaders, have been transported to nearby prisons. Authorities have been called in to protect the surrounding areas as they try to find a way to regain control of the prison.

The plane carrying a British man infected with the Ebola virus arrives just outside London Sunday. Earlier, the specially adapted Royal Air Force cargo plane was sent to pick the healthcare worker up in Sierra Leone. British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond had authorized his repatriation for treatment. The Department of Health said the patient -- whose identity has not been disclosed -- was quote "not currently seriously unwell". The hemorrhagic fever has killed over 1,400 people, mostly in Sierra Leone, Liberia and neighboring Guinea. It's the deadliest outbreak of the disease to date. On Sunday, a new outbreak of Ebola was detected in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed with injured civilians as a result of Israeli airstrikes. As Israel enters its seventh week of war with Gaza, more than 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed. Adding to the death toll, 9 Palestinians,killed by Israeli airstrikes Monday. And the fighting continues... Video from the Israeli army says it shows an airstrike on a rocket launcher used by militants in Gaza, while Hamas militants say they've intercepted an Israeli drone. Sixty four Israeli soldiers and four civilians have been killed since Israel launched its Gaza offensive on July 8, aimed at ending rocket fire into its territory.
