Putin softens Crimea stance
普京關于克里米亞立場軟化
Russian President Vladimir Putin softened his stance on Crimea on Tuesday. He said military force in the eastern region of neighboring Ukraine is not his first option.
周二，俄羅斯總統普京軟化了關于克里米亞問題的立場。他表示，鄰國烏克蘭東部地區的軍隊并不是他的第一選擇。
(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN PRESIDENT, VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING: "What can be a reason to use the armed forces? This is of course the last resort, simply the last resort."

Putin's comments may have been designed to lower East-West tension over fears of a war in the former Soviet republic. But he also reserved the right to use the military option in Ukraine. He called the new government there an "unconstitutional coup,"and said Moscow needs to protect ethnic Russians in Ukraine from what he described as "terror" and "lawlessness" in the country.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in the Ukrainian capital. A show of U.S. support for Kiev's top new leadership. The U.S. also announced a billion dollar aid package for Ukraine. U.S. officials say they're ready to impose -within days -- sanctions against Russia.

It was all caught on surveillance camera. A rescue operation pulled the rare 2009 "Blue Devil" from the rubble -- surfacing with only minor scratches and cracks. Officials say it landed on its wheels. That wasn't the case for the 1993 Ruby Red. The classic cars fell into the 40-foot wide sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum last month. Chevrolet plans to restore all of the cars back to life.

Twenty opponents of Russian intervention in Ukraine were arrested after they released doves, a symbol of peace, into the air.It happened outside the defence ministry in Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia reserves the right to to protect its compatriots in the majority ethnically Russian Crimea region of Ukraine. Putin denies Russian forces were directly involved in the bloodless seizure of Crimea. He says the uniformed troops, who bare no national insignia, are "local self-defence forces." Russian navy ships have reportedly blockaded the strait that separates the Ukrainian Black Sea peninsula from Russia.
