Malala meets with Syrian refugees in Jordan

It's a warm welcome for Pakistani teenage activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Malala Yousafzai as she meets with Syrian refugees in Jordan Wednesday. Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban in October 2012 for campaigning for girl's education

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MALALA YOUSAFZAI, SAYING: "My message to the world is that they should take it serious, and they should never remain silent, because these children need our help. If we forget them, and if we say that they are far away, it wouldn't affect us, so it's not true, because if we don't stop war, it will spread. If we don't stop terrorism, it will spread, and it can affect every person in this world." She stresses the importance of education for this generation of Syrians.

So we should treat them with love, and in a friendly environment, so that tomorrow they would be good human beings, and they would be nice to society."

More than 140,000 people have died in almost three years of conflict in Syria. The UN estimates that more than 650,000 Syrian refugees are in Jordan and that number is expected to increase significantly this year.

U.S. Congressman arrested in Zimbabwe
美國前議員在津巴布韋被捕
A former U.S. congressman has been arrested in Zimbabwe. State media say Mel Reynolds was found with pornographic videos and photos at his hotel in the capital. Possession of pornography is a crime in Zimbabwe. According to authorities, the former Illinois congressman has been living in the country without a valid visa since November and had run up $24,500 in hotel bills. Once a rising star in the Democratic party, Reynold was forced resign in 1995 after being convicted of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.

Volcano forces thousands to flee in Indonesia
印尼火山噴發 居民逃離家園
Indonesians are on the move as ash, sand and gravel fall from an eruption at Mount Kelud. The volcano in the East Java province sent a huge plume of ash 17 kilometers, or 10 miles, into the air.
克盧德火山噴發，大量的火山灰，沙子和石塊散落，印尼人緊急撤離。東爪哇省這座火山向空中噴出高達17千米（或10英里）的火山灰。

More than 76,000 people fled their homes and are waiting it out in shelters. Officials closed seven airports, stranding thousands of passengers. Mount Kelud is one of 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
