'Life-threatening' cold bites U.S. Midwest

The Midwest braces for the coldest weather they've seen in two decades. Forecasters warn the frigid temperatures could be life-threatening, and the Mayor of Indianapolis echoed that sentiment.

The cold really scares me and as such that we will have temperatures that are potentially deadly or certainly life-altering temperatures right now and we have to be very very careful with that."

Violence in Bangladesh as ruling party set to win election

The ballot boxes are locked and polls are closed in Bangladesh. In this violence-plagued election, Bangladesh's ruling party is poised to win. Local media is reporting that at least 18 people were killed in separate incidents on election day. Many more were injured. Six supporters of Bangladesh's main opposition party lay injured in a hospital. They were wounded bypolice fire, after attempting to attack a police station while they protested against the elections.

Some polling stations in Bogra were forced to close, when protesters set fire to ballots. They also knocked down trees, and blocked roads with rocks to prevent voters from reaching polling stations. Senior leader of the opposition party, Osman Farooq, says the people have made a stand by not participating.

Iraq security worsens as bombs kill at least 19

Security under fire in Iraq. Car and roadside bombs explode throughout Baghdad, killing at least 19. The deadly attacks tore facades from buildings, leaving black smoke stains on the wall. The country is mired in its worst violence since 2006-7. This market, also in the capital, suffered its own attack. The bomb killed at least one and wounded five others. In the Anbar province, Sunni Muslim militants linked to al Qaeda are still in control. They seized the town of Falluja earlier this week. They've been fighting off against government security forces ever since. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the U.S. would provide support for Iraq, but ruled out putting troops on the ground.
