300m highway collapses in Mexico
墨西哥300米高速公路坍塌
Dramatic images in Mexico of a stretch of highway near the U.S. border. Around a 300 metres-section of highway connecting Ensenada and Tijuana has collapsed. One truck was trapped but the driver was able to walk away uninjured. Mexican authorities say the collapse was caused by seven small earthquakes. The highway remains closed and local media has reported it could take more than a year for the repairs to be made.

Hundreds flee Central African Republic as violence continues

With bags packed and no set return date, Central Africans are fleeing their country. After a month of violence that has killed more than 1,000 people in the capital Bangui, hundreds are boarding emergency flights to neighboring Chad.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) BANGUI RESIDENT AND MUSLIM SHAFADE TANGABO SAYING: "I am Central African but because there is so much tension here I have decided to leave to find some peace in N'Djamena. Afterwards, we will come back because we have no other homeland. Our ancestors came here in 1821."

Many at the airport are Muslims who say they fear reprisals from the 'anti-balaka' Christian militia. The militia has been targeting Muslims -- including Muslims from Chad -- believed to be aiding the Seleka rebels. So far, more than 2,700 people have flown out since December 21st.

Meanwhile, French and African Union troops continue to patrol under a U.N. mandate to protect citizens. Combined, there are nearly 5,600 troops in the country.

Turkey's Erdogan says foreign powers responsible for "dissemination propaganda"

Nevermind the corruption scandal -- thousands rally to show their support for Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan Saturday. The allegations involve accusations of wrongdoing at a state-run bank. It has forced three ministers to resign. One minister who quit said Erdogan knew what was going on and should resign as well. Ergogan puts the blame on international meddling.

He was accused of being authoritarian and ordered a police crackdown in which eight people died. Polls found his popularity almost unchanged.
