ANC leaders visit prison, in tribute to Mandela
南非領導人探訪監獄 向曼德拉致敬
This was where Nelson Mandela spent his last 14 months of incarceration -- the Victor Verster prison in Paarl, just outside Cape Town. On Monday, Leaders of the African National Congress party paid tribute to Mandela by visiting the prison.
曼德拉最后14個月的監禁生活在開普敦城外帕爾鎮的維克多·維爾斯特監獄度過。周一，非洲人國民大會黨領導人探訪了該監獄，向曼德拉表達敬意。
(SOUNDBITE) (English) AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS PARTY SECRETARY GENERAL, GWEDE MANTASHE, SAYING: "A journey to freedom. Though Mandela wrote 'A Long Walk to Freedom,' I always go and look at it biblically, that the 40 years of a journey to the land of promise means that there were difficult moments and difficult times, and this is but one example."

From 1988, Mandela was living in a private cottage inside the prison, after being in and out of hospital, for tuberculosis treatment. He stayed here until his historic release in February 11, 1990.

He was on Robben Island, he was not happy to be there, but he made the best of it. He was in Pollsmoor, he was not happy to be there, but he made the best of it. And even when he was here, he would not have preferred to be here, he would have preferred to be home."

In Johannesburg, preparations are already underway for a memorial that dozens of world leaders will be attending -- including U.S. President Barack Obama, Iran's Hassan Rouhani and Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe.

Mass funeral for 52 people killed in Yemen

A mass funeral in Yemen, for the 52 people killed in last week's attack on the defense ministry. An attacker drove a car packed with explosives into the gate of the ministry's compound. Gunmen in another vehicle opened fire on soldiers, as well as doctors and nurses working at the hospital inside.
也門舉行了集體葬禮，悼念在上周國防部襲擊中遇難的52人。一名襲擊者駕駛裝滿炸藥的汽車沖向國防部大門。另外一輛汽車中的持槍分子向士兵和內部醫院的醫生護士開槍。

An al-Qaeda linked group claimed responsibility for the attack which killed 52, and injured 200 people.

Thai PM dissolves parliament in face of protests

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra dissolved parliament on Monday (December 9), and called for snap elections.

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) THAI PRIME MINISTER YINGLUCK SHINAWATRA SAYING: "Now that there is dissolution of the house -- the prime minister and the entire team are willing to step down from our positions under article 180(2)."

Tens of thousands of protesters have been on the streets for three weeks, calling for her resignation. Last week police defended key government buildings from protesters using tear gas and rubber bullets. But calm was restored for the king's birthday. Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has said he is not interested in a general election. Instead he wants a vaguely defined "people's council" to run the country. The government has not used excessive force against the protesters but clashes have erupted in which five people have been killed and many more injured.
