有時我不得不驚訝于中文和英文之間的相似程度，中文里我們講「山腳下」，但英文呢？你敢講 foot of the mountain 嗎？還是你覺得 bottom of the mountain 才對？請各位先別取笑那些講 foot of the mountain 的人是 Chinese English，事實上英文里的山腳下正是 foot of the mountain，講 bottom of the mountain 反而是錯誤的，bottom of the mountain 是指山的底部，例如有一批寶藏被埋在山的最底部，才可以說 "The treasure is buried at the bottom of the mountain." 可是一般的情況下我們是不會到 bottom of the mountain (除非是去挖寶)，我們都是到「山腳下」，例如，"I'll see you guys at the foot of the mountain." (山腳下見啦！)

后來我異想天開問老美，那半山腰你們說不說 waist of the mountain？得到的答案則是否定的。他說美國人的確也是用人身上的部份來形容一座山，所以才會有 top of the mountain (山頂) 和 shoulder of the mountain (山肩)，foot of the mountain (山腳) 這樣的說法，但卻少了一個半山腰的說法。
