German football team arrives to a hero's welcome in Berlin

Germany's world cup squad arrives back into the capital Berlin as heroes after beating Argentina 1-0 on Sunday to win the World Cup. Captain Philipp Lahm, trophy in hand, was the first to leave the plane, followed by Bastian Schweinsteiger wrapped in a German flag. Across town, tens of thousands of fans gathered in the city to congratulate the team. Many waited hours to catch a glimpse of the team as they made their way through the city. This may be the fourth time a German side has won the cup, but it's their first since 1990 and the first time a united Germany has lifted the trophy. Fans will now begin looking to Russia in 2018 for victory number five.

Sirens warn Israelis to take cover from rocket attacks. But an ambulance siren tells a different tale. For the first time in more than a week of fighting, an Israeli civilian is killed by a rocket fired from the Gaza strip.

Hamas has claimed responsibility for launching the short-range rocket. The Israeli military says around 80 rockets have been fired at Israel since the Hamas armed wing rejected a ceasefire just hours ago. Now Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says they'll intensify their offensive.

Car bomb attack kills at least 89 in Afghanistan

Tragedy strikes eastern Afghanistan. At least 89 people died when a car bomb explodes in a crowded market -- one of the year's most violent attacks. The death toll is expected to rise, as authorities say dozens of people are trapped under shop roofs.

The huge explosion rocked an area not far from a porous border with Pakistan. It's there that the military has been attacking hideouts of the Pakistani Taliban, prompting militants to retreat towards Afghanistan. Details are still emerging, but the Taliban has not claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. The movement's leader has ordered militants not to target civilians.
