US blast toll rises
紐約市燃氣泄漏引發爆炸
The search for those missing, feared buried beneath the rubble of these two New York City apartment blocks, went on through the night. The number of dead rose to at least four on Thursday. Another 36 have been injured in the explosion that caused the collapse, blamed on a gas leak. Earlier on Wednesday residents in the area spoke of the moment the blast hit.

Flight search nears one-week mark

Nearly a full week has gone by since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and a massive international search has yet to find a single trace. Twelve nations are now involved in the hunt for the missing plane and its 239 passengers and crew. It's one of the world's most baffling aviation mysteries. It's also casting a harsh spotlight on Malaysia's government and its handling of the incident. During the search there's been a litany of confusing messages and a perceived lack of transparency. The problems have included conflicting information about the last time of contact with the missing jet. Asia Pacific senior vice president of sales for Boeing, makers of the missing aircraft, on Thursday refused to speculate but sought to allay any safety fears.

On Thursday India became the latest nation to join the search for flight MH370. It's sending ships, planes and helicopters to help scour what's now a 93,000 square kilometre search area.

President Obama put out a stern warning to Russia on Wednesday. He said the West will be forced to apply a "cost" to Moscow if it fails to change course with its involvement in Ukraine. Obama held talks with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk at the White House Wednesday -- Searching for diplomatic leverage to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to loosen his military grip on Crimea.

There's another path available and we hope that President Putin is willing to seize that path."

And sent another message to Putin to back down… and calm down. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UKRAINIAN PRIME MINISTER ARSENY YATSENIUK SAYING: "Mr. Putin, tear down this wall, the wall of war, intimidation and military aggression. Let's stop, let's calm down."

This comes as election workers assemble polling stations in Crimea. And Ukraine's military holds military drills in the Southern part of the country. All in preparation for the March 16th referendum vote on joining Russia, when the fate of Crimea will be determined.
