Search for missing Malaysia Airlines plane
馬來西亞航班失蹤 搜索工作正在進行
Friends and relatives of some of those on board the Malaysia Airlines flight to Beijing gathered at the airport in the Chinese capital anxiously waiting for news. Flight MH 370 from Kuala Lumpur last had contact with air traffic controllers 120 nautical miles off the east coast of Kota Bharu in Malaysia. The Boeing 777-200 plane was carrying 227 and 12 crew. Malaysia Airlines' group chief executive officer said a search was underway involving Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese authorities.

Most of the passengers on board the missing plane are Chinese. The airline said other nationalities included Malaysian,Indonesian, Australian, New Zealand, American and some Europeans. It said it was contacting the families of those on board and had set up support facilities for those affected.

Turkey frees jailed ex-army chief

Turkey's former army chief Ilker Basbug left jail in Istanbul a free man on Friday night. He'd served 26 months of a life sentence before a constitutional court ruled his rights had been violated during his trial over alleged involvement in a coup plot.

Basbug's been released after a ruling that the court trying him had failed to produce a detailed verdict. The ruling could set a precedent for more than 200 others jailed over what's become known as the Ergenokon conspiracy.

Putin: Russia could not ignore calls for help

Over twenty thousand people gather in Moscow in support of the Crimean people. Letters on the stage read: "We are Together." Many these participants believe Crimea is Russian land.

But in Kiev, protesters gathered outside the Russian embassy... against Russia's military presence in Crimea. According to President Vladimir Putin, Russia could not ignore calls for help from Russian speakers in Ukraine. His spokesman defended Russia's stance:

Rather the opposite, Russia is the country which was asked to help, and as Putin rightfully said Russia is the country which in this particular case cannot ignore these processes. But the origin of these processes is inside Ukraine."

Ukraine's border guards said Moscow had poured troops into Crimea. An aide said there were now 30,000 Russian soldiers in the region. The crisis is being described as the most serious east-west confrontation since the end of the Cold War. Now,Crimea's parliament has voted to join Russia. And preparations have begun for the upcoming referendum set for March 16.
烏克蘭邊境警衛隊表示，莫斯科向克里米亞增派了軍隊。一名助手表示，現在該地區已有30,000名俄羅斯士兵。這場危機被視為二戰結束以來最嚴重的東西方沖突。現在，克里米亞議會已經投票加入俄羅斯，即將到來的定于3月16日舉行的全民公投的準備工作也已開始進行。
