New Zealand holds its first same-sex weddings
新西蘭首批同性戀婚禮
Love is in the air...... This New Zealand couple is among the first to tie the knot since a law legalising same sex marriage went into force on Monday. Lynley Bendall and Ally Wanikau exchanged vows on board a flight to Auckland. They weren't the only ones under the spotlight. Trent Kandler and Paul McCarthy, won a contest by the tourism board, inviting a gay Australian couple to wed in New Zealand... the 13th country to allow homosexuals to marry. Same sex marriages are not yet legal in Australia.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) TRENT KANDLER, GROOM, LEFT SAYING: "We are both honoured to have been able to come to a country that we respect and that respects us for who we are and respects everyone for who they are and, you know, we are going back to Australia and technically, yes, our marriage wont be recognised but you know what, in the back of our heads we know that New Zealand believes in us and New Zealand is behind us all the way so that's what's really important."

MPs' approved the bill by a large majority in April. About 30 gay couples were due to say "I do" on Monday. But it wasn't marital bliss for everyone. Catholic bishops here have opposed the weddings while other denominations have been split.

Mexican troops have captured one of the country's most wanted drug gang leaders. Mario Ramirez Trevino shown in this photograph, known as X-20 or "The Bald one" is said to be the head of the cocaine and marijuana smuggling Gulf Cartel.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) MEXICAN GOVERNMENT SECURITY OFFICE SPOKESPERSON, EDUARDO SANCHEZ SAYING: "He is considered to be one of those most responsible for the violence generating in Tamaulipas. This person is characterized for his use of extreme violence and he is most likely responsible for ordering attacks with weapons and explosives against police installations causing the deaths of a number of elements (policemen) and he has also been shown to be the intellectual author of various kidnappings, particularly two in the state of Veracruz." Washington believes Ramirez's cartel controls most of the cocaine and marijuana trafficking from Mexico to the US and offered a five billion dollar reward for information leading to his arrest.

Spanish fishermen protest Gibraltar's artificial reef

With flags hoisted high, Spanish fishermen are demonstrating against a recently created artificial reef near Gibraltar. In July, the British government dropped 70 concrete blocks into the bay of Gibraltar to form the reef. Now the fishermen say the dispute could cost them up to 1.5 million Euros in income. Passers-by stopped along the water's edge to watch as around 30 boats circled around the location of the reef in protest for nearly an hour. The Spanish government has already announced plans to sue Gibraltar for what it calls an environmental disaster. That's in addition to a new border policy that has occasionally caused hours-long waits for those visiting Gibraltar. Britain is now demanding the European Commission to send monitors to determine whether the policy is breaking the law.
