1【U.S. staff dies in Libya clash】利比亞沖突致美國人員遇難

TEXT:As night crept in, protesters gathered in front of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Explosions and gunfire soon erupted, killing one American staff member. Fires burned in the compound as gunmen fought with security forces in protest against a U.S. film they say is blasphemous. UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT, SAYING: " Stopping the film is our hope, is our relationship with the Americans. Americans want to say something bad about Prophet Mohammad, Prophet Mohammad, I am speaking in English now to them. So don't make our people angry because they will kill, they will fight, they will do such a situation. This is the situation because of the American channels they want to say something bad about our prophet." Residents of the area entered the unsecured embassy freely. Some were seen taking pictures with their mobile phones, while looters raided the compound.

Family members of those who died read the names aloud of those who were killed that day. Flowers were placed the walls that surround the reflecting pools at Ground Zero which mark the footprints of the twin towers. Politicians attended the ceremony but this year only the family members spoke.

The demonstrators were rallying against Japan's plans to buy the disputed islands. Tsang Kin-shing, who had sailed to the islands called Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku in Japanese, said their anger is now directed at the entire nation of Japan. (SOUNDBITE) (Cantonese) PROTESTER AND FORMER LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL MEMBER, TSANG KIN-SHING, SAYING: "Now it's not just about Japan's right-wing groups or Japanese militarism. Now it's about the public co-operating with the Japanese military. Now the whole nation of Japan is making use of the Diaoyu Islands incident to bolster their politicians' military morale. So I believe Chinese people around the globe are angry. Now we have to defeat not only Japanese militarism, but the entire nation of Japan." Protests also broke out in Beijing and Taipei. Chinese held up national flags and sang the national anthem in front of the Japanese embassy. In Taiwan, which also claims the the islands, around 100 people urged Japan to reverse its decision. PROTEST ORGANISER WU RONG-YUAN SAYING: "With the greatest seriousness, we demand Japan stop at the edge of this precipice, and above all demand that Japan's House of Peers make the final check and not let the budget for this plan to so-called "purchase" the islands pass. Only by doing this can they temporarily ease this worsening crisis around the Diaoyu islands" The long-running territorial dispute flared last month after Japan detained a group of Chinese activists who had landed on the islands. The isles are located near rich fishing grounds and potentially huge oil and gas reserves.

It's the first time al-Qaeda has acknowledged the death of Abu Yahya al-Libi - who the U.S. said in June was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan. Shown here in footage from 2008, Libi was one of the group's most senior figures. His death is the biggest in a series of blows to al-Qaeda since Osama bin Laden was killed last year. In the lengthy minute video, Zawahiri called on Muslims to take revenge.
