either的用法歸納:
1. either用作代詞,意為“(兩者之中)任一、任何一個”。在句中可作主語(此時句中謂語動詞用單數(shù))、賓語、表語和定語(作定語時,有的詞典把它稱為形容詞;either作定語時,只能修飾單數(shù)名詞。)如:
Either (of the books) is popular with the students.(兩本書)隨便哪一本都受到同學們的歡迎。(主語)
The books were either works on travel or detective novels.這些書要么是旅游方面的書,要么是偵探小說。(表語)
You can park on either side of the street.在街道的哪邊停車都可以。(定語)
2. either用作副詞,用于否定句作“也”解釋,通常置于句末。如:
I don't like the red shirt and I don”t like the green one either.我不喜歡這件紅襯衫,也不喜歡這件綠襯衫。
As for me, I shall not return there either.如果是我,我也不會回到那兒的。
either還可用來強調(diào)含否定意義的短語。如:
I know a good ltalian restaurant. It”s not far from here either.我知道一家意大利餐館,離這兒并不遠。
3. either可以構(gòu)成短語,either…or…,意為“或……或……、不是……就是……”,在句中連接兩個并列成分。如:
Either you or Tom has done it.(連接并列主語)不是你就是湯姆做了這件事。
You may either stay at home or go there with us.(連接并列謂語)你既可以待在家里也可以和我們一道去。
