“the+比較級(jí)，the+比較級(jí)”意為“越……越……”，表示一方的程度隨著另一方的變化而變化，其中的兩個(gè)the都是副詞，而不是冠詞。本文擬從以下幾個(gè)方面對(duì)此句式作一淺析，希望能幫助同學(xué)們加深理解。
　　
一、對(duì)主、從句的理解
　　
1. 在通常情況下，前一個(gè)“the +比較級(jí)”相當(dāng)于比較狀語(yǔ)從句，后一個(gè)“the + 比較級(jí)”為主句。例如：

The more I read the book，the more I liked it．這本書我越看越喜歡。
The more difficult the questions are, the less likely he is able to answer them. 問(wèn)題越難，他回答出來(lái)的可能性就越小。

2.有時(shí)前一個(gè)“the +比較級(jí)”相當(dāng)于條件狀語(yǔ)從句，后一個(gè)“the + 比較級(jí)”為主句，從句不可用將來(lái)時(shí)。例如：

The earlier you start,the sooner you’ll be back. 你出發(fā)得越早,回來(lái)得就越早。
The more you practise, the better you can understand. 你練習(xí)得越多，理解得就越透。

3.除上述情況外，還存在著主句在前，從句在后的特殊情況。此時(shí)，主句中的“the+比較級(jí)”多放在主句之末。此時(shí)要按漢語(yǔ)習(xí)慣先譯從句，再譯主句。例如：

He is the busier, the happier he feels. 他越忙越高興。
You climb the higher, the farther you will see. 你爬得越高,就看得越遠(yuǎn)。
　　
二、語(yǔ)序
　　
一般說(shuō)來(lái)，從句中的主語(yǔ)與謂語(yǔ)必須是正常語(yǔ)序，不能是倒裝語(yǔ)序。主句可根據(jù)需要調(diào)整，既可采用正常語(yǔ)序，也可采用倒裝語(yǔ)序。例如：
The noisier they were, the happier was their mother. 孩子越吵鬧，他們的母親就越高興。
The harder you work, the more progress you will get. 你越努力，進(jìn)步就越快。
　　
三、省略
　　
1. 在通常情況下，如果主、從句中的謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞是聯(lián)系動(dòng)詞be，而且主語(yǔ)非代詞時(shí)，此時(shí)be常常省略。例如：

The better the food (is), the more popular a restaurant gets. 食物越可口，飯店的生意就越紅火。
The higher the tree (is), the stronger the wind (is). 樹大招風(fēng)。
The more exercise you take, the stronger you are. 鍛煉得越多，身體越強(qiáng)壯。(注意：此句中的聯(lián)系動(dòng)詞are不能省略。)

2. 對(duì)于主句在前，從句在后的特殊情況，主句中形容詞或副詞前的the常常省略。例如：

You practise (the) more, the better you can understand. 你練習(xí)得越多，你理解得就越透。
I knew him (the) more, the more I liked him. 我越了解他就越喜歡他。

3.主、從句的主語(yǔ)和謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞在敘述的場(chǎng)合有默契，可酌情省略。例如：

The sooner (you finish it), the better (it will be). 你完成得越快越好。
The more (you know), the more dangerous (it will be). 你知道得越多，處境就越危險(xiǎn)。
