釋義：end up的意思是經過某些過程或回合之后最后在干什么、 到達哪里、得到什么結果等等

用法1：后面跟動名詞， 表示“最后在干什么”。

Eg. The money ended up enriching the 15 local criminal organizations.

Eg. You could end up running this company if you play your cards right.

詞性：是一個并列連詞。

用法一：rather than 與would 連用時，構成“would rather...than...”句式，意思是“寧愿……而不愿……”表示主觀愿望，即在兩者之中選擇其一。

Eg. She'd rather die than lose the children.

她寧愿死也不愿失去孩子們。

用法二：rather than 不與would連用時，表示客觀事實，意為“是……而不是……；與其……不如……”。它連接的并列成分可以是名詞、代詞、形容詞、介詞(短語)、動名詞、分句、不定式、動詞等。現分述如下：

(1) 連接兩個名詞或代詞

Eg. He is an explorer rather than a sailor.

與其說他是一個海員，不如說他是一個探險者。

Eg. You rather than I are going to go camping.

是你而不是我要去要野營。

注意：rather than 連接兩個名詞或代詞作主語時，謂語動詞應與rather than 前面的名詞或代詞在人稱和數上保持一致。

(2) 連接兩個形容詞

Eg. The sweater she bought was beautiful rather than cheap. 與其說她買的這件羊毛衫便宜不如說它漂亮。

連接兩個介詞(短語)或動名詞

Eg. We will have the meeting in the classroom rather than in the great hall.

我們是在教室里開會，不是在大廳里。

Eg. She enjoys singing rather than dancing.

她喜歡唱歌，而不喜歡跳舞。

(4) 連接兩個分句

Eg. We should help him rather than he should help us.

(5) 連接兩個不定式

Eg. I decided to write rather than (to) telephone.

注意：rather than 后接不定式時，不定式可以帶to，也可以不帶to, 如上句。但rather than位于句首時，則只能接不帶to 的不定式。如：Rather than allow the vegetables to go bad, he sold them at half price. 他唯恐蔬菜爛掉，把它們以半價賣掉了。

(6) 連接兩個動詞

Eg. He ran rather than walked.

他是跑來的，而不是走來的。

注意：這里rather than 后用了walked，而沒有用walk，表示客觀事實，而不是主觀愿望。如果換成walk，則作“寧愿……而不愿 ……”解。

would rather... than...

1.基本用法：

would rather與than連用，可構成另一個慣用句式，即：would rather...than.... 意謂寧可（愿）……（而）不要（愿）……、與其……不如……。用以表達主語的意愿，強調經過選擇后做其中一件事，而不愿做另一件事。Would rather和than的后面都接動詞原形。

Eg. I would rather watch TV at home than go to the cinema.

我寧可在家看電視而不愿去看電影。

Eg. The children would rather walk there than take a bus.

孩子們寧愿步行去那里而不乘公共汽車。

2.特殊用法：

（1） than 后邊也應接動詞原形，但如該句型前后連接的兩個動詞相同，則than之后的那個動詞可省去。

Eg. I'd rather you know that now than afterwards.

我寧可你現在就知道這件事，而不是以后。

（2）would rather...than...也可改寫成 “would...rather than...”其用法及含義仍不變。

Eg. Facing the enemies, our soldiers would die rather than surrender.

面對敵人，我們的戰士寧死不屈。

（3）有時，為表示語氣上的強調，可將rather than置于句首。

Eg. Rather than refuse to help you, I would borrow money from my friends.

我寧可向朋友借錢，也不愿拒絕幫助你。

（4）would rather后也可跟從句，表示主語寧愿讓某人干某事。這時，從句謂語動詞要用虛擬語氣，即用一般過去時表示過去現在或將來要做的事；用過去完成時表示過去要做的事。

Eg. I'd rather she set out to do the work now.

我寧愿她現在就著手做這項工作。

Eg. I'd rather you met her at the airport tomorrow morning.

（5）would rather后還可接動詞的完成式，表示主語要做某事，而結果事與愿違的意思。
