一.excuse：vt. 原諒，辯解 n. 理由，辯解，借口
【詞義辨析】
cause，reason，excuse
cause: 指直接導(dǎo)致事情發(fā)生的原因，與所發(fā)生的事有因果關(guān)系。
reason: 強(qiáng)調(diào)指從邏輯推理上得出的結(jié)論性原因，不是直接說明起因。
excuse: 指為自己辯解，希望得到諒解時所提出的種種理由，是借口性的理由。
【例句用法】
1.Excuse me, can I get past, please?
勞駕，能讓我過去嗎？
2.Excuse me, but I must say you are completely wrong.
對不起，但是我必須說你完全錯了。
3.His excuse for being late was that he had missed the train.
他遲到的理由是沒有趕上火車。
4.Please excuse my bad handwriting.
請原諒我的字寫得不好。
二.follow：v. 跟隨，追趕，緊接著，注意，遵循，沿著，明白 n. 跟隨
【詞語用法】
1.follow可表示“在……之后”，常作及物動詞，后面不需要再加介詞after。
The duckling followed its mother everywhere.
小鴨子們緊跟著母鴨到處走。
2.as follows屬于固定的習(xí)慣用語，在以詞組形式出現(xiàn)的時候，follow不可以單數(shù)形式出現(xiàn)，不管句子主語是單數(shù)或復(fù)數(shù)，只可以as follows的形式出現(xiàn)。

規(guī)則如下。
3.follow后的介詞如upon有時可省略。
A strange thing followed upon the incident.
這個事件后跟著出了很奇怪的事情。
4.(as) in the following同as follows一樣都屬于固定搭配，兩者不可混用，如不可隨意更改成as following或in the follows；
5.the following可同時作單數(shù)或者復(fù)數(shù)，隨句子的意思而改變。
The following is my full name.
The following are our full names.
6.following有時以介詞形式出現(xiàn)，常見于報紙上。
Following the ceremony a reception was held.
在典禮之后，會舉行一場招待會。
7.要注意，follow后不能接賓語和不定式的結(jié)構(gòu)。
I followed him to go into the house.
這種說法是不可以的。應(yīng)改成I followed him into the house。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：The pages are all mixed up; this should follow after that.
糾正：The pages are all mixed up; this should follow that.
翻譯：這些頁全部都錯亂了，這一頁應(yīng)該是跟在那一頁后面的。
分析：follow可表示“在……之后”，常作及物動詞，后面不需要再加介詞after。
