原句重現(xiàn)：I shouldn't have lost my temper,and I certainly shouldn't have treated you like anything less than a client.

在英語學習中許多學生不能確切區(qū)分no more than和not more than這兩個短語，讓我們來看看它們的區(qū)別：
1. 在數(shù)量上進行比較時，no more than = only， 作"僅僅；只有"解，有數(shù)量少的含義。not more than = at most，作"至多；不超過"解，說明一個事實。如：
(1) in all there are probably no more than a total of 400 tigers left there. 那里所剩的老虎總量也許只有400只。
(2) not more than fifteen students passed the exam. 最多十五名學生通過了這次考試。

2. 在程度上進行比較時，no more than 有"兩者都不"之意，not more than有"不及"之意。如：
(1) this film is no more interesting than that one. = neither this film nor that one is interesting. = this film is not interesting. nor / neither is that one. 這部電影不見得比那部電影好看。（即：兩者都不好看。）
(2) this novel is not more interesting than that one. = that novel is more interesting than this one. 這部小說不及那部小說有趣。（只強調有趣的程度不同這一事實。）

另外的兩個短語not less than與no less than也是比較容易混淆的：
1. 在數(shù)量上進行比較，not less than + 基數(shù)詞表示"不下于；至少；不止"。no less than + 基數(shù)詞表示"達......之多（言其多）"。如：
(1) there are not less than 40 students in this class. 這個班級至少有40個學生。
(2) no less than 1,000 people were missing in the earthquake. 地震中失蹤人數(shù)多達一千人。

2. 在程度上進行比較，not less than 表示"不比"。no less than表示"和......一樣"。如：
(1) the old copy of the dictionary is not less expensive than the new one. 舊版的詞典不比新版的便宜。
(2) she is no less clever than her brother. 她和她哥哥一樣聰明。
