end up: 意思是“經過某些過程或回合之后，最后在干什么、 到達哪里、得到什么結果等等”。為了便于說明，我把的用法分為兩類：一類是后面跟動名詞， 表示“最后在干什么”。 看下面的例子：

1. The money ended up enriching the 15 local criminal organizations. 這筆錢最后肥了當地的15個犯罪集團。
You could end up running this company if you play your cards right. 如果你牌出得對，最可能由你來經營這家公司。(play cards right 是指“應對，處理得當”）
I don’t care if they end up flipping hamburgers or if they end up being President of the United States. 我不管他們最后是賣漢堡包還上最后做了美國總統 （一位老師在談到他對學生一視同仁時如是說。又：flip hmaburgers 有點與中文中“翻燒餅”的意思差多 ）。
If we impose a uniform food pattern on people, you we end up hurting many people. 如果我們強迫人們吃同一類型的食品，我們最后會傷害許多人。
If the feds pull their money out in order to beef up security, we'd end up creating more problems than we solve. 如果聯邦政府抽出資金以加強國家安全，我們最后造成問題比我們解決的問題還要多。
You can end up paying as much to return an item as the purchase price of the item. 你可能最后花在上退貨的費用與花在購買商品上的錢一樣多。

2. 第二種用法是end up后面跟名詞， 意思是“最后到達什么狀態，情況， 地方等”。 需要注意的是跟名詞時后面要接一個介詞，用什么介詞要根據后面的名詞而定。例如：

Most of the trash that Americans generate ends up in landfills. 美國人產生的垃圾最后都送到垃圾填埋場。
The graveyard of the high-tech revolution is ending up in rural China. 高技術的墳場在中國的農村。
The romance ends up in the fifth place. 這部愛情故事片最后獲得第五名。
So if you don’t have a pretty structured return policy, you will end up with a lot of problems. 如果你沒有一個相當規范的退貨規定，你最后會弄出許多問題。
We ended up at a service station. 我們七轉八轉最后到了一家汽車修理站。
