一.settle:v.解決, 定居, 安頓, 平靜 n.有背的長凳
【詞義辨析】
1.decide, determine, resolve, settle
這些動詞都含“決定”之意。
decide側重指經過思考、比較、討論或詢問之后做出的決定。
determine指經過深思熟慮，決心去做某事并堅持施行。
resolve語氣較強，強調以堅定不移的信念去做或不做某事，暗含有遠大抱負和堅強決心。
settle指排除猶豫、懷疑和爭論之后作出明確的最終結論。
2.dwell, reside, live, lodge, inhabit, settle
這些動詞均有“居住、定居”之意。
dwell文學上的用詞，口語中通常用live代替。
reside書面用詞，指合法的永久性居住，也指在豪華的住宅里居住。
live最普通用詞，指固定的居住，可以是長期的，也可以是臨時的。
lodge指短時間或臨時住宿。
inhabit強調人或動物居住在某個地區并已適應某種特殊環境。
settle側重指某人定居于城市、國家或地區，而不指居住的住所。

If you pay for both of us now, we can settle up later.

二.give birth to：產生，造成；生孩子

【詞義辨析】
below, beneath, under, underneath
這些前置詞均可表示位置“在……下面”之意。
below指位置低于某物或在某物下方，但不一定在正下方，所指范圍較寬。
beneath書面用詞，指緊挨……之下，其反義詞是on。
under普通用詞，與over相對，指在某物的正下方，含垂直在下的意思。
underneath書面口語均用，也常與beneath和under換用，但更含遮蔽的意味。
【例句用法】
