knock it off! 住手!(不要再做某事)
A: John, knock it off, would you? Your singing is killing me.
A: John, 你停止好嗎? 你的歌聲簡直要我的命!
B: Hey! You're rude.
B: 嘿! 你怎么那么沒禮貌啊!
"Knock it off!" 是叫(某人)停止做某事的意思, 與 "Cut it out!" 和 "Stop it!" 都是同樣的意思。
my ass 才怪!(表示強烈的質疑)
A: Honey, this is going to be my last cigarette. I'm not gonna smoke again, I promise.
A: 甜心, 這將是我最后一支煙。 我跟你保證, 我絕不會再抽煙了。
B: This is going to be your last cigarette, my ass.
B: 這會是你的最后一根煙? 哂氣啦!
"my ass" (原意:我的屁屁)是一個用來表示對對方所說的話強烈的不相信的用語。很像中文里的“才怪!”“哂氣啦!”之類的話。也有女生會在"ass"前加個"little", 而成"my little ass"(我的小屁屁), 也幾可愛的。
big time 非常; 很; 大大地
A: Oh, no. I completely forgot about my appointment with Mr. Bowen at 2 o'clock.
A: 唉呀! 糟了! 我完全忘了我和 Bowen 太太二點鐘的約。
B: You know she's gonna complain about that big time, don't you?
B: 你知道她會跟你抱怨一番的吧?
"big time" 也是常耞到的一個口語。它的意思就相當于 "very much" ; "extremely"。
如果你跟你的朋友開了一個很大的玩笑, 結果他真的被你唬得一愣一愣的, 你就可以很得意地對他說: "I got you big time." (我把你騙得亂七八糟的吧!)。
the man (the Man) 大哥; 厲害的人
A: What time is it, honey?
A: 甜心! 現在幾點啦?
B: It's six pm on the nose.
B: 晚上六點整。
"on the nose" 除了當時間整點外, 還有“完全”(= exactly) 的意思。好比你的心事被一個朋友看透了。你就可以對他說:"Your guess was right on the nose." (你的猜測完全正確。)
on the nose (時間的)整點; 完全
A: Mr. Leroad, can I hand in my homework next time. I left it at home.
A: Leroad 先生, 我能不能下次再交作業呢? 我把功課忘在家里了。
B: All of the scores must be given to the office by Friday, so you must have your homework today. It is a school rule and there is nothing I can do. My hands are tied!.
B: 所有的分數都必須在禮拜五前交到辦公室(學校), 所以你今天一定要有你的作業。這是學校的規定, 我無能為力。
"My hands are tied." 在這里并不是真正“手被綁起來”的意思, 而是指“沒辦法”的意思。好比電話響了, 你很忙不能接, 也可以說:"Can you get it? My hand are tied." (我很忙, 你能接一下嗎?") 。
on the spot 讓(某人)在壓力下作決定; 當場
A: So, what do you say, Rich? Should we stay or leave?
A: 那么...Rocj, 你說我們該待在這里, 還是走掉呢?
B: Hey! Don't put me on the spot. How should I know?
B: 嘿! 別讓我一個人作決定呀! 我哪知道啊!
"on the spot" 的另一個用法是“當場”的意思。好比你送車進廠檢修, 修車廠的人找到問題后, 馬上當場幫你把車修好, 就算"They fixed your car on the spot."
