UK warns of new extremist fears

The emergence of an online video purportedly showing British and Australian Muslims urging people to join the militants fighting in Iraq and Syria has raised fears of spreading extremism. The men were filmed in Syria in what appeared to be a recruitment video for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants. Cressida Dick is a senior British counter-terrorism police officer. She's warning some foreign extremists now in Iraq or Syra may intend harm closer to home.

Doctor Usama Hasan, a senior researcher in Islamic Studies, says the militants, known as ISIL or ISIS, are the new al Qaeda.

The militants control parts of Syria and have captured a large area of Iraq including the city of Mosul. They want to create an Islamic Caliphate from the Mediterranean Sea to Iran. Intelligence agencies say the group has become a magnet for thousands of jihadi volunteers from Europe and North Africa.

South Korea ferry trial begins

Families of those who died in the South Korean ferry sinking arrive for the trial of the ship's crew. It's the first day the court's expected to start hearing testimony. This man, Captain Lee Joon-seok, as well as three senior officers, are charged with homicide. They could face the death sentence. The other crew members are accused of negligence and abandoning ship. The ferry, overloaded and travelling too fast, sank in April, killing more than 300, many of them high school students. Lawyers for the crew argue that it was up to the coastguard to rescue the passengers, not them. Passengers who survived the sinking are expected to give evidence during the trial.

Prince Harry returns to Brazil

Prince Harry mixes business with pleasure. The British royal visited a hospital in Brazil's capital at the start of a trip that will also take him to the sidelines of the World Cup. The 29-year-old watched patients play wheelchair basketball at Brasilia's Rede Sarah Hospital, chatted with patients and even went boating. Harry has plans to travel to the city of Belo Horizonte to watch England play Costa Rica in their final match. After four days in Brazil, Harry will also pay a first visit to Chile.
