High-speed rail helps Spring Festival rush
高鐵幫助緩解春運高峰緊張形勢
China has recently launched 7 new high-speed rail lines, making the country’s mileage account for more than half of the world’s total high-speed rails. And with the spring festival holiday just around the corner, a new travelling trend is emerging.
More and more people are choosing high-speed railways as their preferred mode of transportation to return home. Our reporter Su Yuting went to Guangzhou South Railway station, a major high-speed railway transportation hub in south China to speak to passengers about their travel experience.

Mr. Luo and his wife decided to take the Wuguang High-Speed Railway line to their family reunion. Their Travel time has been significantly shortened via this high-speed rail.
“This is the first time we have taken the high-speed rail home during the peak-travel time. Previously, It takes about 4 hours and a half to get home from Shaoguan to Shenzhen, but now, it only takes about 1 hour. The modern technology provides us with a fantastic travelling experience,” Mr. Luo said.
“My husband and I find it very good taking the high-speed railway home. The seating is comfortable and the cabin is clean.
The environment is great,” Mrs. Luo said.
China’s high-speed railway is proving to be a big help during the Spring Festival. Increasing numbers of people are choosing high-speed railway because it’s fast and convenient. It offers a much more pleasant journey than older trains.
A high-speed rail system has been built to link all of the Pearl River Delta cities together. Authorities say the high-speed rail system in the region can accommodate 100-thousand people per day.
”Since the high-speed rail started operation in Guanzhou South Railway Station, it has greatly reduced the burden of passenger flow. We attract many people to take high-speed rail from buses and flights. For the first 7 days of the spring festival travel peak season, we have delivered more than 60-thousand people. That is about a 16 percent increase than the previous year,” said Liu Hui, staff member from Guangzhou South Railway Station.
China is building a national high-speed passenger rail network. Authorities plan to build more than 16,000 km of high-speed lines by 2020. With high-speed trains′ tickets becoming less costly, it’s entirely possible that many more people will choose this way of traveling in the near future.
