France reports first SARS-like virus case
法國報(bào)告首例SARS類似病例
French health authorities confirm France's first case of a new strain of coronavirus on Wednesday. The 65 year-old man from northern France contracted the virus during a visit to Dubai.
周三，經(jīng)法國衛(wèi)生局證實(shí)，法國出現(xiàn)了首例新菌株冠狀病毒。患者來自法國北部，65歲，在迪拜旅行時(shí)感染上了病毒。
FRENCH HEALTH AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS MINISTER, MARISOL TOURAINE, SAYING: "The man was hospitalised in Valenciennes on April 23 and then transferred to the medical centre in Douai on April 29. He's in isolation in an intensive care ward." The potentially fatal condition first identified in Saudi Arabia has now spread to several European countries including the United Kingdom. The coronavirus is from the same viral family that triggered the SARS outbreak in 2003 that killed over 700 people.

Queen Elizabeth opens British parliament

Britain's Queen Elizabeth makes her way from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster by horse carriage to preside over the Opening of Parliament on Wednesday. But before she makes her address, the queen's representative at Westminster, Black Rod, summons the Members of Parliament from the House of Commons. This is done by knocking on the door three times with his rod after it is slammed in his face, symbolizing historic resistance to the Crown. Later, the monarch reads out the Queen's Speech in the House of Lords, which outlines the government's plans for the coming year. One of the key messages for this year's parliament is tougher immigration laws that make it easier to deport criminals and curb illegal immigration.

Barbara Knight, the mother of Michelle Knight, one of three women believed to have been held captive in a Cleveland home, saying: "I started crying and I was happy that they found her because I was looking for her and I just don't want her to think I forgot about her." Ariel Castro, a former school bus driver, and his two brothers were arrested on Monday are expected to be arraigned as soon as Wednesday.
