Good evening, said Ronan. Students, are you? And do you learn much, up at the school?
“晚上好，”羅南說，“你們是學生？在學校里學到的東西多嗎？”
Erm — A bit, said Hermione timidly. A bit.
“嗯——學到一點兒。”赫敏靦腆地說。
Well, that's something. Ronan sighed. He flung back his head and stared at the sky. Mars is bright tonight.
“學到一點兒，好，那就很不錯了。”羅南嘆了口氣，他仰起頭，凝視著天空，“今晚的火星很明亮。”
Yeah, said Hagrid, glancing up, too.
“是啊，”海格說著，也抬頭看了一眼天空，
Listen, I'm glad we've run inter yeh, Ronan, 'cause there's a unicorn bin hurt — you seen anythin'?
“聽我說，羅南，我很高興我們碰見了你，因為有一只獨角獸受傷了——你看見了什么沒有？”
Ronan didn't answer immediately. He stared unblinkingly upward, then sighed again.
羅南沒有馬上回答。他眼睛一眨不眨地向上凝望著，接著又嘆了口氣，
Always the innocent are the first victims, he said. So it has been for ages past, so it is now.
“總是無辜者首先受害。”他說，“幾百年以來是這樣，現在還是這樣。”
Yeah, said Hagrid, but have yeh seen anythin', Ronan? Anythin' unusual?
“是啊，”海格說，“可是你有沒有看見什么，羅南？有沒有看見什么異常的東西？”
Mars is bright tonight, Ronan repeated, while Hagrid watched him impatiently. Unusually bright.
“今晚的火星很明亮。”羅南又重復了一句，海格不耐煩地看著他。“異常明亮。”羅南說。
Yeah, but I was meanin' anythin' unusual a bit nearer home, said Hagrid. So yeh haven't noticed anythin' strange?
“不錯，可我的意思是，在靠近咱們家的地方，有沒有什么反常的情況。”海格說，“你沒有注意到一些奇怪的動靜嗎？”
Yet again, Ronan took a while to answer. At last, he said, The forest hides many secrets.
羅南還是遲遲沒有回答。最后，他說：“森林里藏著許多秘密。”
